Map of Paris (details)
by BRETEZ, Louis, Engraving
Nearly 150 maps of Paris were published in the eighteenth century. The most famous and most pleasant to use is the one prepared by Louis Bretez in 1734-38 for Michel-tienne Turgot, provost of the merchants of Paris, with its convenient, if somewhat artificial, bird’s-eye views. The so-called Turgot map documents urban expansion to the north and east.
