Laurent-Benoît Dewez, a pupil of Vanvitelli, was the first to develop a distinct Neoclassical style in southern Netherlands. He built a palace in Seneffe for Duke Julien de Pestre in 1760. He elegantly arranged the faade with Corinthian columns and designed the colonnades of the court gallery with Ionic columns. The concept of the building was patterned after English country houses - themselves inspired by Palladio - but the details of the decorations are largely of French origin.
