Flowers in a Blue Vase
by LEEN, Willem van, Oil on canvas, 140 x 74 cm
This canvas was executed most likely in Paris in the 1780s. It was intended to decorate a section of wall in a palace interior. Van Leen is known to have drawn designs in Paris for floral wall decorations in the palace of Pavlovsk near Saint Petersburg, built in the 1780s. However, the present painting was intended for a more intimate interior.
