Additions were made to the interior of the Palazzo Pubblico in the 19th century that, to mirror a Siena that was now part of a unified Italy, tried to link the emblem of the “good governor” of the Republic with that of the Savoyard king in the Sala del Risorgimento. The fresco decoration in this room is totally out of keeping in the context of a palazzo celebrated as an image of Siena from the 13th to the 17th centuries.
