Monument to Cardinal Neri Corsini
by MAINI, Giovanni Battista, Marble
Maini’s most important works are in Galilei’s Cappella Corsini in San Giovanni in Laterano: the bronze statue of Clement XII (1734), almost a straight classicising copy after the pope of Bernini’s Urban tomb, and more characteristic, the monument to Cardinal Neri Corsini (1732-35), in which the figure of the Cardinal recalls Philippe de Champaigne’ Richelieu in the Louvre.
