Gargoyle
by VIOLLET-LE-DUC, Eugène-Emmanuel, Stone
The picture shows a Gothic gargoyle on one of the towers of Notre-Dame. Viollet-le-Duc’s restorations, which included Notre-Dame and Sainte-Chapelle in Paris as well as the walled city of Carcassone, epitomize the often controversial rebuilding that produced many of the ‘medieval’ edifices we see today.
