Portrait of a Young Bearded Gentleman
by CALCAR, Jan Steven van, Oil on canvas, 125 x 92 cm
This portrait represents a young bearded gentleman, three-quarter length standing, holding a carnation in one hand and the hilt of a sword in the other. It has been assumed that the sitter is to be identified with the anatomist Andreas Vesalius (1514-1564), however, it is not verified.
