View of the Falls at Tivoli
by FREY, Johannes Jakob, Oil on canvas, 100 x 137 cm
Frey made frequent excursions into the Roman countryside, particularly in the summer months, making plein-air landscape sketches. The present view depicts the hill town of Tivoli and its famous waterfall. Tivoli was a favourite subject among artists, attracted by the spectacular falls and magnificent views over the surrounding countryside.
