Portrait of Charles, 8th Lord Kinnaird

This is a rare late pastel by Hugh Douglas Hamilton executed towards the very end of his life when he had returned to Ireland from Italy. The subject here is a Scottish aristocrat, Charles, 8th Lord Kinnaird (1780-1826). In 1802 he took a seat as Member of Parliament for Leominster. On his succession to his father’s title, he was a Scottish representative peer from December 1806 to June 1807.
