The portrait of Pheodosia Stepanovna Rzhevskaya (1760-1795), later Princess Golitsyna, and Princess Nastasia Mikhailovna Davidova (b. 1764) is from the series of seven paintings called the “Smolianki” (Girls Educated at the Smolny Institute), commissioned by Catherine the Great.
