Prince Christian Frederik of Denmark
by LUND, Johan Ludwig Gebhard, Oil on canvas
Christian Frederik (1786-1848) was the King of Norway in 1814, and, as Christian VIII, King of Denmark from 1839 to 1848. He was elected in May 1814 as the first king of an independent Norway in centuries and had played a crucial role in the events of that momentous year. However, he was forced to abdicate in October that same year and later reigned as King Christian VIII of Denmark.
The portrait shows the then Prince Christian Frederik of Denmark in 1813.
