The Fall

by MUR, Ramon de, Panel

Stimulated by French painting, especially that of Avignon, International Gothic gradually gained ground in northern Spain from around 1400. Ramon de Mur is considered the greatest representative of this period, which is characterized by a shift away from Italian forms. On the altarpiece now in the episcopal museum of Vic, Mur depicted the Fall in the Paradise which is surrounded by castle-like architecture.
