Caspar David Friedrich also had an impact on landscape painting among the Nazarenes. Ferdinand Olivier studied with Friedrich before going to Vienna in 1812, where he met members of the Nazarenes. He adapted Friedrich minute observation, giving it a more “altdeutsch” quality. he also favoured landscape as representing religious experience, but interpreted this in a more conventional way. His remarkable series of lithographs Seven Places in Salzburg and Berchtesgaden (1818-22) uses views of different locations in the Salzburg area to suggest the days of the holy week.
