Amor patriae
by STANLEY, Carl Frederik, Plaster, height 113 cm
The title of the statue can be translated as Love of one’s country. This allegory symbolizing patriotism was created by the Englih-born Stanley in 1777 when he obtained Danish citizenship.
The allegorical figure is shown standing by his armour, shield, sword, and arrow, quite literally trampling another sword underfoot. In reward of patriotic deeds, he bears two laurel wreaths, the symbol of honour.
