Tapestry tablecloth with floral patterns were a genre typical of Northern Netherlandish tapestry production in the second and third quarters of the 17th century. Many pieces of furniture were also covered with tapestry in this period when it was fashionable to use the same pattern and material for chair-coverings and tablecloth. This armchair is one of the very few surviving examples of this kind of furniture.
