VALCKX, Pieter

(b. 1734 Mechelen, d. 1785 Mechelen)

Flemish sculptor, a pupil of Theodoor Verhaegen. He was active mainly in Mechelen where his best works (organ case and benches) can be seen in the Onze-Lieve-Vrouw-over-de-Dijlekerk and the Sint-Janskerk. He sculpted a pulpit for the Sint-Katelijnekerk and several sculptures for the Sint-Romboutscatedraal.

Valckx also built a monumental pulpit in the Sint-Germanuskerk in Tienen around 1760.

Valckx executed the organ encasement and two benches for the Church of St John.

This pulpit was originally sculpted for the old Church of St Peter and St Paul in Mechelen. When the church was demolished, the pulpit was moved to the present location in Tienen.
